Fu*k the job search

'You may be disappointed to hear that another candidate had more experience, so this time your application has been unsuccessful' read the feedback letter from my most recent job interview.

Another rejection.

I don't need to be told HOW THAT MIGHT MAKE ME FEEL and, no I'm not disappointed,

no, you twat,

I'm relieved,

I don't want your minimum wage job, never did.

It's just that I need income and I'm running out of options.  I need to pay my council tax and charge my phone, need to get about, and to buy tickets for a Sleaford Mods gig in September.

And, fuck the violunteering (great typo) job too, working for free, what's that about?

It's about creating an illusion of participation, you ride the morning communtor train, have a place to go, people to meet, things to do, get to wear a lanyard to show the that you're a participant, that you have a place, that you belong to an organization, you go to meetings, but it's all crap unless I get paid.  I'm a fraud, I'm deluding myself if I'm not getting paid then obviously my work has no value.

Speaking to all volunteers now, let's wake up guys, we're working for free - in hospitals, shops, food banks, for the environment, we're holding it together, and without pay, why????

Well speaking for myself now, it's because I do want to work, to participate
but doesn't my time, my experience, my engagement have some value?

It does have value.  Just found an online calculator, my volunteering hours (6 hours/week) have been valued at

£4,502.16/year according to the calculator of the Office for National Statistics

Where do I send the invoice?

I want to be a participant but volunteering won't pay my council tax or buy me tickets for a Sleaford Mods gig.

I hereby call A GENERAL STRIKE for all volunteer workers - that should get some attention.

We need pay.

Damn all exploitation.

Better to sit at home, no need to be alone,

today I had a visitor

  1. I feel for you, I feel for us all, advertising jobs that aren't even available, just ticking the 'EO' box, playing lip service, wasting valuable time, killing moral, killing any sense of self worth, causing us to put time in for hope of recognition, but still not quite good enough, qualifications a little outdated, mmm a wee too old not able to mold us, not like those young fresh out of uni who are lucky enough to actually get a job for there are so many of them, cutting corners, putting more on those already there, encouraging competitiveness to fight for the scraps, get them proficient at jumping through the ever changing and increasing hoops, work for nothing 'it'll look great on your CV and you really don't know who you may meet'...if they have the clout that is, if they even notice you at all that is....oh darling it's complete shit...

  2. I also feel for you, and love the short video of bee and incidental appropriate soundtrack. Hold on hold on.
